Life Lessons For All Ages: The Joys of Living – Part I: Less is More!! ::-))

Where do I begin? ..

I’m not old, but I’m not extremely young.

I’ve lived a while and have some experience under my belt by now.

There are things I wish I could have told my younger self once upon a time …

Words of advice, and so forth …

What words of wisdom would I have shared? ………

WORDS OF ADVICE TO MY YOUNGER SELF …………

1) Believe in yourself and know that, if difficult, things WILL get better!!

2) You have more power to change your life for the better than you think!!

3) As you grow and mature and find yourself on the precipice of selecting your first place / home on your own… no need to go big immediately! You’ll be amazed at how little you really need to make it on your own.. Just a roof over your head in a safe environment. Less is more. You’ll thank yourself later!! A studio or studio suite is amazingly comfortable and relaxing, and you’ll be so happy you’re not spending all your hard-earned money needlessly.

4) Life is not about how many possessions you have… it’s about the journey!! Literally!! .. Every day, make it about the journey …

5) Think about all the different places you’d love to visit… Realize that the money you’ve earned and so carefully saved.. using a part of that to travel and see the world rather than pouring more than necessary into a larger-than-necessary dwelling … will be infinitely more rewarding and satisfying!! ūüôā

6) Continuing to manage your money conservatively … planning ahead …. planning to buy a nice little piece of property and investing in a home / condo of your own is the way to go (do your research, tho!! so you know you’re getting a good deal!!) … rather than paying rent to the point where you’re pouring an unreasonably high amount of money down the drain over too many years.

7) Whether you have a lot of money or a little… Make friends with your bank’s personal bankers. Establish a relationship by visiting your local bank regularly. Ask questions. You’ll find it more interesting than you think!! Before you know it .. you’ll be making concrete plans regarding your future and making your most heartfelt goals become reality, and securing your future to make it easier to ride the waves of this life’s unexpected changes and surprises and still come out ahead and safe and sound.

Stay tuned for more tips and ideas in the future!! …….

Sincerely and with love!! …

Personal Finance: Introduction ~ Early Education

Hi Everyone!!

Finally!! ::-))

My page on Personal Finance …

~

Though I’d like to think that I received a well-rounded education growing up, it boggles my mind that there are some topics that, in this day & age, are still not required and standardized nationwide.

One of my most important and serious concerns is the gap in our education system regarding finances … specifically Personal Finance … especially in light of the economy these days…

I think there are certain aspects of Personal Finance that should be required for graduation at every level of our education system.  It should be consistent and standardized, as well as reviewed and revised regularly to remain relevant and current.

We are raising one generation after another who finds themself deeper and deeper in debt.

Synergy exists in a multitude of aspects of our lives .. personally as well as professionally .. locally as well as nationally ..

It is true that the sum of the parts is greater than the whole.

It works both ways, however  .. both positively and negatively.

To some extent, it is our individual debt that has created a nation in debt up to it’s eyeballs.

I believe that in order to turn things around .. among several worthwhile approaches .. one critical approach is to address this issue early on.

That means as we teach our children what we consider all the traditional important life skills, we should also be teaching them about money .. beyond how to count it and make change …

I mean how to handle it .. how to save it .. how to value it in a healthy manner .. how not to abuse nor waste it … and though it’s important to live in the present and enjoy life … [and though they may not know exactly what they want out of life as far as the type of work & lifestyle they would ultimately enjoy] …

Some of the greatest gifts we can give our children are the knowledge, skills & tools required to cultivate some sort of long-term vision and show them how they can, step-by-step, methodically lay the groundwork to create the future they desire and will truly enjoy, no matter what that might be.

Also important¬†are the emotional aspects of money (earning it; spending vs. saving it; immediate vs. delayed gratification; using it to buy ‚Äúthings‚ÄĚ to fill our lives and homes in the hope of (sometimes) filling an emptiness within ‚Ķ

All these tools can teach our children how to make wiser choices  .. how to make their money work for them, not against them, and help them build a secure future.

Yes, I do believe that providing the tools to properly educate our children in this regard is the primary responsibility of the parent or parents of our children, however it is so basic a foundation to their future success that I cannot see how it is not also the responsibility of our entire education system as well.

There are many hard-working, overworked parents out there who may not have the time, energy or knowledge to guide their child or children in this regard.  Things being the way they are, any help that a parent can receive in this endeavor is well-worth the investment.  It is an investment in the future not only of our children but the entire nation.

One of my favorite websites is:

www.LearnVest.com

It‚Äôs a wonderful educational tool in the area of Personal Finance and offers many workshops referred to as ‚ÄúBoot Camps‚ÄĚ for revising, overhauling, enriching various aspects of your life, from your Finances to your Career.

************

Additionally, much of the information, tools and guidance via optional daily email and otherwise that I’ve experienced on this website are free, so cost is not a factor nor inhibitor in taking control of and improving your life financially and careerwise, and for this I personally applaud LearnVest.com and their staff!! ::-))

~

As with my other lists, in the future I’ll be adding additional resources / websites as I have time to expand on it, but I did want to get this page launched because the topic is so important and we need to rev up & energize the conversation and actively work toward instilling new, healthier ways of handling our Personal Finances.

About Me

Hi! Thanks for stopping by and checking out my blog!

Let’s see…

How would I describe myself?

I am …

Multilingual¬†and¬†highly creative … I’d like to think so, anyway!¬† My passions are¬†Literature, Music, Interior Design, Travel, Photography, Architecture, Gardening, Mental Gymnastics, Psychology, Good Food, Kind & Down-to-Earth People, Visiting w Friends & Family.¬†¬†I’m fluent in Norwegian & English, and also almost fluent in Spanish & French.¬† I have some knowledge of several other languages as well.

I am an Executive Assistant / Creative Writer / Photographer / Web Design & Development and Social Media Enthusiast / Translator / Aspiring Travel Agent / and now Blogger!

I’m looking to break out of the mold of living a life filled primarily with work, work, work … because … that’s not really “living” is it?¬† There’s a difference between merely existing and truly living & enjoying life.¬†

So my goal is to¬†enrich my life so I can truly enjoy it.¬† How I’m doing that is by giving myself the gift of time to¬†nurture my creativity through the hobbies & interests listed above.¬†

While enjoying these interests … I find myself meditating and thinking about how to achieve a more satisfying life. ¬†In the process, I hope to discover more about who I truly am and how to be the best me I can be; and while at it, how to¬†create a more prosperous life and future.

Welcome to my first blog!

Here I hope to provide a lot of useful information, in addition to my thoughts & observations on various relevant topics.

Some of my areas of focus will be Workplace Environments, Personal Finance & Education, among others.

I’m very grateful to be working.¬† In the past, one would traditionally work for years & years & years at one and the same place, but that is no longer the case … not in this economy … and not in this day and age.¬† I do have some thoughts and observations on this, as well as various issues we all face in our respective work environments, and also other topics, such as the ones listed above.

I’m¬†also seeking input by you, the reader, on each of the topics I’ll be¬†highlighting, so please feel free to add to the conversation!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my blog!  Have a terrific day!

Later!
